Iowa farmers lend helping hand to improve water quality

BOONE COUNTY, Iowa —

Before drinking water ends up in the cup you drink or in a sink, it flows through a winding path of creeks and rivers in watersheds, like Big Creek in Boone County.

On its way to the faucet, water picks up nitrates from fertilizers.

Des Moines Water Works uses costly nitrate removal equipment to make the water safe. Now, they’re receiving additional help from Iowa farmers.
